C.E.R.E.P. : Heritage Research and Study Centre
The Heritage Research and Study Centre, based at the Sens Museums Registry is the brainchild of the municipality of Sens and its wish to develop higher education in Sens,
particularly in the fields of history of art and archaeology, given the wealth of its heritage and archaeology in the town and its region.

Opening times
Monday to Friday : 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Closed : during August and from 24 December to 2 January
Appointments possible outside opening times.

Located as it is in two renovated and extended (1999-2001) municipal buildings at 5 and 14 rue Rigault, it complements the Sens Museums,
themselves currently moving into the Archbishop's Palace near the Cathedral. They all enjoy strong partnership links with the Sens Archaeological Society.

Entry conditions
Entry is free to the consulting rooms. Visitors should, however, register first at the reception desk.

Functions
The work carried out using grants allocated under the Inter-regional Plan Contract related to the 5-year plan has allowed
buildings to be restructured and made ready for the following functions:
a) Teaching and research
Courses organised in conjunction with the University of Burgundy, symposium, round table with UMR 5594 (Mixed Research Unit)
- large lecture room
- seminar room
- common room
b) Consultation in the collections and archaeological repository
1) Collections
- Deposits from State-run excavations in conjunction with the Regional Archaeological Department are collected in the main storage areas on the ground floor (in the former Salle Julliot).
- Museum and Sens Archaeological Society collections (archaeology, paintings, movable items), rue Rigault
2) Reception conditions
- Consulting room.
- Sorting room, for searchers to wash and sort their finds.
- 3 equipped offices are available to students and researchers for long-term work.
3) Activities
- Open to the general public.
- Contact with archaeologists.
- Computerised inventory of collections.
- Health and safety monitoring of finds.
- Exhibitions possible
c) Library and documentation (Sens Archaeological Society - Museums)
1) Collections
- Reference and local history works accessible directly, together with around seventy current periodicals. The other works and periodicals held in reserve are provided to readers upon request.
- The photo library holds photos on various types of media: slides (38,000), large format ektas, black and white and colour negatives.
- CEREP - Museums have documentary files by district, artist and institution (museums, galleries, etc.)
2) Open to the public
- Public reading room.
- Computerised, consultable catalogue on two computer work-stations that tells readers in which section of the network the works are held (municipal library, archives, documentation, CEREP-Museums).
- One of the two computer work-stations provides access to internet sites on the themes covered - local history, fine arts, archaeology, history of art, museums.
